Landscaping

We install trees and large shrubs year-round, unless the ground is covered in snow or too frozen to dig. Yes, trees will do great when planted in the winter!  For most shrubs and perennials, we focus on installing between March and November for the best results. Annuals are planted starting after Mother’s Day, once the risk of frost has passed. We warranty your plants for an entire year, so they are covered, despite the exact date of planting! In the Adirondack region, these perennials thrive:

  • Bee Balm (Monarda): Attracts hummingbirds and butterflies.
  • Astilbe: Prefers moist, shaded areas.
  • Lupine: Adds vertical interest and color.
  • Columbine: Delicate flowers suitable for woodland gardens.
  • Trillium: Native wildflower for shaded spots.

The cost of landscaping is difficult to generalize without site-specific information and an understanding of the specific vision for your home. However, Realtors published an article that states that a homeowner can expect to spend between 10-12% of the cost of their home on plants and garden beds. We have found that for many projects, this is a fairly accurate projection; however, many projects are above or below that average based on the homeowner’s objectives, specific site requirements, and finished material selections. Absolutely. Sloped properties and erosion-prone areas are common challenges we address. Our team can implement retaining walls, grading solutions, or deep-rooted plantings that stabilize the soil while enhancing your landscape design. Learn more about our landscaping services here.

Seeding is typically more cost-effective upfront, but it takes time, care, and the right conditions to establish. Sod is more expensive initially, but offers an instant lawn with immediate curb appeal and erosion control. We’ll help you choose the best option for your property based on your timeline, soil prep, and maintenance expectations. Either way, we’re here to make it beautiful and long-lasting. Contact us to get a professional’s recommendation.

Selecting the right trees depends on your goals:

  • Low Maintenance: Consider native species like Eastern Redbud or River Birch, which are well-adapted to local conditions and require minimal care.
  • Flowering: Trees like Flowering Dogwood or Serviceberry offer beautiful blooms and seasonal interest.
  • Fruit-Bearing: Pawpaw and Persimmon trees provide edible fruits and attract wildlife.

It’s advisable to avoid invasive species such as the Bradford Pear, which can cause ecological issues. Get in touch with our experts for personalized recommendations.

For Midwest gardens, consider these hardy perennials:

  • Coneflower (Echinacea): Drought-tolerant and attracts pollinators.
  • Daylilies: Low maintenance with vibrant blooms.
  • Hostas: Ideal for shaded areas.
  • Black-eyed Susan: Bright, long-lasting flowers.
  • Sedum: Great for ground cover and rock gardens.

Outdoor kitchen prices can vary widely based on features and materials. On average, most outdoor kitchens cost between $20,000 and $40,000. Basic modular kits start around $10,000, while high-end, fully customized “gourmet” setups can range from $40,000 to $70,000 or more.

The final cost depends largely on the number of amenities, type of materials, size, and location of the kitchen. Explore our outdoor kitchen designs for inspiration and start your quote today!

Retaining wall installation costs typically range from $50-80 per square foot. The final price depends on factors like wall height, materials (stone, concrete), and site conditions. Learn more about designing a retaining wall that fits your needs.

Installing a swimming pool can increase your home’s value, especially when it’s well-integrated into the landscape and suits the local market. A professionally designed pool area can enhance curb appeal and provide a desirable feature for potential buyers. Explore our pool design services here.

This will depend on your specific property, but often, a well-constructed retaining wall not only addresses functional needs like erosion control but also enhances the aesthetic appeal of your property. It can create usable outdoor spaces and contribute to the overall landscape design, potentially increasing property value. Explore retaining wall options for your landscape.

Maintenance

Yes! Our seasonal cleanups are designed to refresh your landscape and prep your lawn and beds for the season ahead. These visits typically include:

  • Removing leaves, sticks, and debris from lawn and beds
  • Trimming back perennials and shrubs as needed
  • Re-edging landscape beds
  • Mulch top-dressing (if selected)
  • Lawn mowing and detailing around hardscape edges

Spring and fall cleanups are the most popular, but we can also tailor these visits based on your property’s needs or storm-related debris. Contact us for a seasonal cleanup.

We offer comprehensive outdoor maintenance programs that go well beyond mowing. Depending on your property’s needs, we offer:

  • Fertilization (custom-blended for your grass type)
  • Weed control (pre- and post-emergent treatments)
  • Soil testing and pH balancing
  • Aeration and overseeding
  • Disease and insect monitoring

We’ll assess your lawn’s current condition and recommend a personalized program to help it thrive year-round with minimal effort on your part. Learn more about what’s included in our full outdoor maintenance plans.

There’s typically not a lot of maintenance in the first year or two after plants are installed.  The above ground growth is minimal as the plants are trying to get root establishment as vigorously as possible.

Most plants require at least a light pruning each year (spring and fall are best) and it may be necessary to remove some dead wood or dormant material after the winter season.

The most important thing you can do to care for your plants is adhere to a strict watering plan, especially within the first year after installation. Learn more about how to water your plants here.
