KIRKWOOD VISTA
Transforming elevation challenges into design opportunities, this project combines a custom gunite pool, elegant stonework, and a seamless flow of outdoor living elements.
Built as both a retreat and gathering space, it reflects timeless craftsmanship while creating a private resort experience at home.
PRECISION, PURPOSE & PERFECTION
A collaboration between Elevate Pools and Elevate Outdoor, this Kirkwood property was designed to turn a longtime dream into reality. At the heart of the space is a custom gunite pool, surrounded by a pool deck finished in County Materials Grand Discover XL (Allure) with Reflection accents. Rockwood 8″ Classic Straight Face retaining walls in Charcoal and Rosetta Dimensional steps provide structure and balance, while an aluminum fence blends function with style.
For homeowners Suzie and her family, the result is more than a pool — it’s a resort-like escape steps from their door. “When our kids asked us where we were going on vacation, we told them we’re staying in the backyard. We love relaxing by the pool in the evenings with a glass of wine, and it really feels like we’re at a resort. Elevate took the elevation challenges of our yard and turned them into a design we truly love.”

The Transformation
BEFORE
A wide lawn with untapped potential
What the homeowners had was space—an open backyard bordered by mature trees—but no defined areas to relax, gather, or play. The grade was simple, the views were great, and the dream was a modern pool environment that felt like an extension of the home rather than “just a yard.”
Goal
Create a resort-style experience with clear zones for lounging, dining, and evening ambiance while keeping lines minimal and maintenance low.
DESIGN
A smart plan built on clarity and flow
The concept centers an 18′ × 36′ rectangular pool with a tanning ledge/sun shelf for in-water loungers. Clean paver bands frame the pool, while planting beds and low walls define edges without visual clutter. Circulation paths connect the dining terrace to the lounging deck, and lighting is layered for nighttime glow along the fence and garden borders.
Key moves
Rectilinear pool for timeless, minimal geometry
Sun shelf for relaxed, resort-style lounging
Framed paver layout for crisp lines and easy maintenance
Evergreen structure + seasonal color to soften hardscape
Lighting plan to extend use well into the evening
AFTER
A polished retreat made for everyday living
The finished space delivers exactly what the plan promised: calm, modern lines and cozy comfort. The water’s edge is outlined with crisp pavers; the sun shelf invites all-day lounging; and garden lighting creates a warm, evening atmosphere. What was once an empty lawn is now a seamless outdoor living area—balanced, functional, and ready for effortless entertaining.
Experience it
Morning coffee by the water, slow afternoons on the loungers, dinner on the terrace, and an easy stroll through softly lit gardens after dark.
FAQs
How much should I expect to spend on landscaping?
The cost of landscaping is difficult to generalize without site-specific information and an understanding of the specific vision for your home. However, Realtors published an article that states that a homeowner can expect to spend between 10-12% of the cost of their home on landscaping. We have found that for many projects, this is a fairly accurate projection, however, many projects are above or below that average based on the homeowner’s objectives, specific site requirements, and finished material selections.
Can I complete my project in phases?
Absolutely. We work with homeowners on a regular basis to create phasing plans for their projects. We will phase a project to meet the clients’ initial budget goals, while maintaining a cohesive design that can be flawlessly completed in 2 stages or 10, based on your specific needs.
How do I care for my plants after they are installed by Elevate?
There’s typically not a lot of maintenance in the first year or two after plants are installed. The above ground growth is minimal as the plants are trying to get root establishment as vigorously as possible.
Most plants require at least a light pruning each year (spring and fall are best) and it may be necessary to remove some dead wood or dormant material after the winter season.
The most important thing you can do to care for your plants is adhere to a strict watering plan, especially within the first year after installation. Click here to learn more about how to water your plants.
